Jehovah is NOT God’s nameThe very first time God revealed his name was at the burning bush. God was talking Moses into going back to Egypt; but Moses was scared. He was a wanted man back in Egypt, and was making up excuses why he shouldn’t be the one the children of Israel out of captivity:
"I AM THAT I AM,"--spelled "YHWH"--or the shortened form "I AM," is the real name of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. In the King James version everywhere “Lord” (small capital letters) appears is actually God's given name YHWH – a singular word. This is known as the “tetragrammaton” which was so sacred to the Jews that they wouldn't speak it aloud. No one, in fact, knows now how it’s supposed to be pronounced. There’s another word translated “Lord” (small letters)--“Adonai.” It means “master.” Since all the letters in I AM THAT I AM are consonants, someone took the vowels from Adonai, inserted them in-between the consonants of YHWH, and came up with YaHoWaH (English = Jehovah). So you see, although people use “Jehovah” for God’s name by convention, it (like "trinity") is a made-up word describing something else we don’t fully understand. The word “God” used throughout the Old Testament is the Hebrew word "Elohim" – which is a plural word. So, everyplace the phrase "Lord God"--Lord (singular) God (plural)--appears in the Old Testament think “trinity.”
