Jesus was Here!

In the darkest hours of WW II a sketched character named Kilroy was born.  Most everyone recognizes this simple illustration of a bald little fellow with his nose and hands sticking over a wall.  Kilroy worked his way into Americans' hearts through graffiti engraved walls both home and aboard.  The saying “Kilroy was Here!” represented the embodiment America’s mighty power.  There are many explanations and even some folk lore as to how Kilroy was born.  While those stories are interesting and entertaining, more important is the fervor that this cartoon champion still brings to peoples hearts today.

In the darkest hours of Judean history Jesus Christ was born.  Unlike Kilroy, Jesus wasn’t lifeless; he was born much the way all babies are born.  Jesus had real enemies just like America did in WW II.  Many people at the time of Christ’s’ birth understood he was the prophesied Messiah.  Enemies pursued both Jesus and his parents and tried to kill the baby Christ.  Eventually Christ was nailed to a cross. The enemies thought they had won, but Jesus arose from the dead and ascended into heaven.  More important is the fervor that Christ still brings to people's hearts today through the power of his Holy Spirit.

In the darkest hour of my life I asked Jesus to save me.  I don’t even think I knew for sure what I wanted him to save me from, probably mostly my own self-destructive patterns.  I only had the slightest idea of who Christ was; I certainly didn’t realize the mighty power He would bring to my life.  Unlike Kilroy, Jesus didn’t just give me a good feeling that I would overcome the enemies in my life.  Enemies like fear, hopelessness, anger or lack of purpose.  Through the power of the Holy Spirit Christ began a work in my life and is still here today.  Jesus was here, is here and will always be here!

Jesus Christ isn’t just an idea or slogan like our hero Kilroy.  Most everyone has heard the gospel story in some form or another.  Not many people see Jesus as God’s embodiment of mighty power.  There are many explanations and even some folk lore as to how Jesus Christ was born and died.  More important is the salvation and purpose that Christ still brings to peoples lives today.
